On The Move Active School Travel Initiative
Parents and guardians play an important role in helping their children meet the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity. One easy way to do this is by encouraging children to walk or wheel to and from school. Parents also play an important role in helping their children understand that walking and wheeling to school is a great way to help fight climate change, which benefits human health and the health of the environment (e.g. fewer greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner air to breathe).
Admiral Collingwood E.S. is taking part in the Simcoe Muskoka On the Move, active school travel initiative. This initiative aims to encourage more walking and wheeling to and from school and improve school journeys for our students. Parents, students, and school staff will work with municipal, school board and public health staff to look at how we may be able to reduce congestion, address traffic safety issues and encourage more students to walk and wheel for the school journey. Over the next few weeks information will be collected to help us understand current school travel trends, priorities, opportunities, and barriers to active school travel. We greatly appreciate your support of our On the Move initiative.
